Chicago

Millions of people live in Chicago, and the ones I’m staying with tonight just happen to live in the only neighborhood in this whole city I’m really familiar with. Very strange.

The night was great though. Arrived in Chicago a little early, got a parking ticket even though the meter was paid up (apparently, elsewhere, it was posted that there’s no parking there during rush hour). Went to the venue, and helped load gear in during what I can only describe as a typhoon coming off of Lake Michigan (or Indiana). The show was great. The opening acts did a superb job, and I was most impressed by Helen Money, who is a solo cellist who loops and distorts and does all sorts of impossible things with her cello.

Then Atomica took the stage, and as always, they dominated. In a very mellow, relaxing sort of way, although I have to speculate that their set has become a bit more edgy since I saw them last May. Very good stuff.

Alright, it’s 2:30 and we leave for Cleveland at 11, so I’m going to sleep. Keep on keepin’ on everyone.

reminds me of a joke…

Silly Rabbi, kicks are for Trids!

updates

are better than downdates. Anyway, I haven’t been posting much, certainly not after that ten page indulgence after seemingly years of writing more than a single paragraph of text.

A lot has been happening, but more accurately, a lot is going to happen someday. I’ve been putting some muscle into the band and planning out some shows for March for that. Move out of Circle Six, so I’m looking for a new job now (hint, hint). But more than that, I’m trying to work out details on a tour. Not a tour for me though, but instead for the Chicago-based electronica band The Atomica Project.

They’re great folk, and it appears as though going on tour with them (for photographic purposes, I should add) will actually end up working out, unless I’m offered some brilliant job before the tour starts. Consequently, this has started the ol’ brainworks working out just what I’m going to be using for workflow, gear, and so on. I mean, yes, large format film is cool, but is it practical to be shooting out there? We’ll see. I also plan on shooting a huge amount of film, but just how to deal with that on the road remains to be seen.

If anybody has any grand ideas to suggest for this endeavor, I’d much like to hear them. Toss it out there.
